Birdwatching

Nature lovers will be in heaven at the Audubon Bird Sanctuary on Dauphin Island, AL. A 137-acre escape filled with trails, ponds, and coastal habitats.

Discover butterflies, fish, unique fauna and even an alligator throughout the maritime forest, marshes, and dunes, which include a lake, a swamp, and a beach. The three-mile trail system within the Sanctuary has been designated as a National Recreational Trail and the Dauphin Island Park & Beach Board has made a commitment to the environmental stewardship of these parklands.

The island is famous as a stopover for migrating songbirds, and you’ll also spot herons, egrets, osprey, eagles, and more. The West End is also a bird sanctuary where nesting happens. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or simply enjoy a peaceful walk, our sanctuaries are the perfect place to slow down and soak in the beauty of the island’s wildlife.
